Mental illness is a bitch. It hit a little on Monday and then on Tuesday HARD. So what better way to depression watch than a show that’s built to, well, ruin everything? When I wasn’t continuing my re-bingewatch on iZombie, I decided to watch every episode of Adam Ruins Everything. I’d caught some shows on Netflix before, but they do “collections” of the series, not full seasons. So I hacked (strong word, but technically true) into my parent’s Xfinity account so I could watch the full seasons on TruTV’s website directly.
On Monday, I also watched Un Chant d’Amour (1950), or “The Song of Love”, which was really amazing for its brazen depictions of homosexuality in 1950, but also VERY close to being literal porn. One more masturbation scene and I think it would be literal porn. But still, pretty fascinating.
Next took me most of the week, but I did also watch Devil’s Domain (2016), essentially about a teen girl questioning her sexuality and struggling with an eating disorder who becomes friends lovers gal pals with the Devil (who’s super hot), while the devil kills off her classmates that are making her life a living hell *ba dum tss*, all in exchange for a baby. The baby part comes super late into the movie, but it’s in the synopsis, so I’d say it’s fair game to spoil.

The Devil: You just became best friends with the most badass bitch in the universe.
It’s not the best plot or the best acting by any means, but I do think it’s a really good example of how to execute a clearly low-budget film. Definitely a trigger-warning heavy film.
Thursday through Friday I finished seasons 2 and 3 of ARE. On Friday, Big Mouth Season 3 premiered! Such a cringily brilliant show.

Matthew: What do I do? What do I do?
Hormone Monster: Kill yourself!
Matthew: Oh, you’re always pitching that!
I finished the first 6 episodes of it on Friday, which ended my week, because my weekend ended up being pretty jam-packed.
Unofficial Ratings
Adam Ruins Everything: Season 2

There’s a big chunk of animated episodes in the middle about the real facts surrounding American history, which felt cathartic AF.
Adam Ruins Everything: Season 3

I miss Adam’s fictional sister. She fuckin’ ruled.
Un Chant d’Amour

Not a lot of plot. Completely silent. Black and white. Unforgettable.
Devil’s Domain

The continuity in this is ATROCIOUS and honestly unforgivable but a gay movie is a gay movie and I’m legally required to support gay movies.
Even though this one has its fair share of homophobic/transphobic dialogue and piss poor treatment of self harm, bulimia, suicide, bullying, and cyberbullying (and that’s BEFORE the Devil comes in).
