Step by Step (12/02 – 12/08/19)

I tried to start off the week with an H.H. Holmes documentary I found on Hulu, but it was so inaccurate and so poorly done that I gave up halfway through. I mean, who uses B-Roll of SF trolley’s and claims it’s Chicago? The goddamn FERRY BUILDING was in the background! It’s narrated by some British guy, so maybe he thinks it’s all the same everywhere (Lord knows my British relatives do).

So, I don’t count that. My actual start to the week was skipping class and seeing Frozen II (2019) in theaters. Let me tell you. It was so goddamn cold in that theater that I’m still trying to warm up FIVE HOURS later. Call it immersion? Also the theater lights never turned off so it was a bright viewing. What a mess, but a good movie nonetheless! I easily enjoyed this one more than Frozen (2013) though I’m sure I’ll get sick of it soon, once I see everything branded for it.

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!!

The Huluween shorts last me had me eager for more, so I looked up a short I watched last year that I absolutely loved. And it holds up! It’s called Your Date is Here (2017) and is about a mother and daughter playing an old fashioned dating-themed board game. Just trust me.

Next up: LOOPHOLE TIME! Buzzfeed’s Ruining History (hosted by one great Shane Madej) is on Hulu, which means I get to count to it. I really honestly do love witty retellings of history, and this series does not disappoint. It’s too bad it only got one season, but between this and Unsolved, I think we all know which I’d choose. Either way, I finished the whole season of Ruining History in one sitting.

Wednesday was Knives Out (2019) day. I don’t know why I kept expecting a major mindfuck twist, but that never really came for me- it’s a very straightforward whodunnit in my mind, which is good! It’s really enjoyable and I recommend checking it out! But with the amount it was hyped up to me, I was expecting it to blow my mind, and it didn’t.

Instead of working on my senior thesis, I decided to watch a couple murder documentaries instead. I watched half of the two part special Murder on the Internet, about guys who use dating apps to lure their victims, and then I watched the first episode (of 3) of Deadly Legacy, a different special about cold case detectives working to name 3 of the 8 unnamed John Wayne Gacy victims.

I followed that up with another episode of Haunted (I’m almost through! Chugging along) and then I saw Frozen II again with a few friends this time! I didn’t finish a lot this week, but I made progress on a couple things!

I’ll also be doing a minor overhaul of my Watchlist thus week, so if you have any recommendations, feel free to send them my way!
